• Sport a fancy hair accessory such as a
headband or hair clip or divert the focus
from your tresses to great make-up. Pile
hair up in a messy knot and throw the
adorable accessory on. —
Gupta
• Style the hair differently— maybe in a
ponytail or with some hair accessory or
blow-dry it to salvage it. —

IF I WERE STUCK ON A DESERT ISLAND,
I WOULD NEED
• Sunscreen with moisturizing
properties. —
Husain
• I would need a good sunscreen with at
least an SPF 30 and reliable UVA and
UVB protection. —
Chakarvarti
• I would depend on whatever is
available at hand— fruits, vegetables,
herbs, mud, and make them work for
myself as a cleanser, scrub, toner, and a
moisturizer.
— Gupta
• Apart from clothes, food and warmth,
I would need a good sunscreen lotion.
Another must-have is The Nature’s Co.
Citronella Insect Repellent to keep the
insects at bay. And obviously, to stay
clean I’d need a body wash. —

WORTH THE SPLURGE
• I would have to mention my own
products. The Shahnaz Husain Platinum
Range holds promise as it is a blend of
the rejuvenating properties of platinum
and many plant ingredients. —
Husain
• Jonathan ‘Dirt’ Hair Texturizing
Paste— there is something amazing
about your hair the day you use it and
JAFRA’s Royal Jelly Advanced Milk Balm
with Sirtuin Activators, an excellent
anti-ageing treatment.

• Lotus Herbals Professional Retail
Range PHTYORx Skin Brightening
& Clarifying Essence that gives you a
flawless and radiant skin. —

CHEAP, BUT WORTH A MILLION
• The Plant Stem Cells from Shahnaz
Husain kitty that control ageing and
rejuvenate the skin. —
Husain
• Rosebud Lip Salve. It’s been around
for decades and is a great product to
keep your lips soft. —
Chakarvarti
• A lip balm. Inexpensive but believe me
a good lip balm that is free of petroleum
jelly is worth a million to maintain the
look and feel of our lips. —

“I wish someone had
told me about starting with
a basic skincare regime in
my teens. It is never too
early to begin.”

• The Nature’s Co. Coffee Face Scrub.
I’m being biased to The Nature’s Co. but
using it, is believing it. —

I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME
• About waterproof mascara sooner.
Once, I made the mistake of not using it
and the result has taught me a valuable
makeup lesson. —
Husain
• To start with a simple skincare
regimen in my teens. I believe, it is never
too early to start. —
Chakaivarti
• About the benefits of a toner. I had
very oily skin during my teenage years
and I was actively into sports. It became
very difficult to manage my skin and it
was an easy, ready target for ugly acne
and pimples. —
Gupta
• That
ubtan
pastes traditionally known
to reduce body hair can have side
effects on infant skins. I used it on one
of my twin boys and it made his skin
excessively rough, dry and red. Even in
adults,
ubtan
can lead to acne.—

I’M SO GLAD SOMEONE TOLD ME
• About home ingredients for
skincare. My mother always used home
ingredients for beauty care. She would
make a body scrub by tying ingredients
in a clean cloth, wetting it slightly and
making us mb the cloth bag on our skin.
It contained gram flour, rice powder,
ground almonds, turmeric powder, dry
and ground mint leaves and so on. It
gave the skin a wonderful glow. —

• Beauty has to be inside and out. You
are what you eat. So healthy food habits
will lead to a promising, healthy skin.
Couple this with good skincare products
and clean your face twice a day with
products that suit you. —

• Before a party, to get a glowing skin,
add a pinch of salt and
l/ 2
teaspoon sugar
into the lather of the face wash and wash
your face with it. —
Gupta
• Make and use products that you
wouldn’t mind using on your own
childrens’ skin. —

BEAUTY PET PEEVE
• Neglecting minor details such as
chipped toe nails, shabby hair, and
untidy lipstick. —
Husain
• Chipped nail paint. Just paint over it
or take the nail polish off.
— Gupta
• People who have normal or oily
skin, think that they do not need to
moisturize their skin or apply lotions/
creams on a regular basis. —

A FAVOURITE HOME REMEDY
• A mask of 2 teaspoons wheat bran
mixed with one teaspoon each of ground
almonds, orange juice, curd, and honey.
Apply on the face and wash off after 20
minutes; take ground almonds or walnut
powder. Add yogurt and apply on the
face. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rub gently
on the skin and wash off with water. It
makes for an excellent scrub; mix ripe
papaya pulp, grated cucumber, grated
apple, mashed banana with a little yogurt
and Fuller’s earth. Apply on the face.
Wash it off after 20 minutes. —
Husain
• A mix of yogurt, honey and mashed
avocado pulp (if available). Apply on the
face. Leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse. Try
once a week. Great for moisturizing and
firming. —
Chakarvarti
• 1 teaspoon each of grounded orange
peel, oatmeal, almond, lentil, rice
powdered or
suji,
mixed with a fruit or
vegetable juice as per the skin type for
spotted and sluggish skin. —
Gupta
• A multigrain scrub with rice, oatmeal,
gram flour, yellow pigeon peas (
toor dal)
and a couple of other pulses. A paste of
all of these mixed in water along with a
little sandalwood powder and turmeric
makes a very good body scrub that will
leave your skin rejuvenated. —
